Picture this: it’s a bustling Wednesday morning at the spa.

Our high-S receptionist, Sally, is in her element, expertly managing the day’s appointments. In whirls, Lizzy, our high-I therapist, charming everyone as she enthusiastically shares the latest skincare trends. Meanwhile, Marisa, our high-D spa owner, decides to have us reorganize the product shelves for ‘optimal efficiency.’ Just as the place buzzes with activity and the chaos seems to peak, Claire, our high-C operations manager, steps in. With a keen eye, she meticulously audits every transaction from the morning rush, ensuring that every detail remains perfectly accounted for and in order despite the whirlwind of activity.

Imagine having a team that clicks, where everyone complements each other perfectly, like the ideal mix of essential oils during a relaxing massage. That's what we dove into during our live coaching this week. I covered how to use DISC profiling to build powerhouse teams!

Here's a quick rundown if you couldn't make it:

  • Dominance (D):
    These are your go-getters who thrive on challenges and take charge. Think salon managers or spa directors—the ones who keep the ship sailing smoothly and set the course for success. Your best retailing therapists generally have a strong D score.
  • Influence (I):
    These folks are the life of the party, the social butterflies who light up the room. Front desk staff or marketing gurus—they're the ones who bring the sparkle and charm to your establishment, making clients feel right at home. If you want to run a slick yet brilliant front desk, your front desk team must have a strong I with a C combination.
  • Steadiness (S):
    Meet your peacekeepers, who value harmony and stability above all else. These are your seasoned therapists or reliable receptionists who keep the vibe serene and the atmosphere Zen. S personalities are generally not great retailers; hence, you need to check for a second D or I when recruiting your therapist team if you want to have strong retail in your business.
  • Conscientiousness (C):
    Precision is their middle name! These detail-oriented wizards excel at analyzing data and ensuring accuracy. From inventory managers to skincare specialists, they're the ones who dot the i's and cross the t's, keeping everything running like clockwork. It is very important that the business manager or director has a strong C side, as they need to be accurate and double-check everything.

Here’s the best part: By understanding and aligning these personality traits, you can build an effective and harmonious team. It’s like balancing the yin and yang in our spa world. I’ve dedicated a chapter in our management program to this because it’s crucial for assembling or refreshing your team.
