Why Can’t People Just Do Their Job???

I've heard this more times than I can count on both hands this week! It's no joke and really concerning because these words are coming out of many business owners' mouths these days. It’s a trend, actually—a conversation starter. How sad.
A month ago, I tried something different. I stepped out of my comfort zone and took a new approach to get a team of therapists to take their retail and service targets seriously. I would tell them repeatedly, ask if they understood, and even draw pictures about how important it is for the spa to meet its revenue goals. Daily, I would break the target down into bite-sized chunks to make it more digestible. This worked a year ago, but for the last six months: not a chance! Frustration deluxe is all I can say. Lots of grey hairs and anxiety through the roof! Not good and not sustainable.
With much skepticism, I tried the “my why” session. I followed the program and did it by the book. That same day, the spa therapists achieved a 30% retail ratio. The next week, the numbers went from 5% retail to 20, 25, and even 30% on many days. I could not believe my eyes! It worked!
“MY WHY” is a simple alignment exercise. It aligns each individual's personal "why" with the business goals, and suddenly it’s a combination of being heard, feeling valued, and taking an interest in everyone's personal needs and wants—with a lot of giggles and laughter in between.
